The Rat Pack
As usual I had spent my day off at the mall. I just went there for a few arcade games and some window shopping. As the usual course of my day at the mall progressed, I had found myself at the record bar of the main department store. Usually I check out VCDs to look out for good buys to add to my VCD collection, but my feet brought me to the music section. Lately, I've bee enjoying the music of a local radio station here at home that caters to love songs and mellow music. Included in their programming is the new album of Westlife, "Allow Us To Be Frank." The group revived songs from the Rat Pack era. Songs with the likes of The Way You Look Tonight and Fly Me To The Moon. The group tried their best to stick to the original. To my ears that had been accustomed to RnB and Pop music... I loved the album! It was just like my Dad's Frank Sinatra records but I (I didn't believe it at first) really liked it. I can't put my finger on it but the music appealed to me. I enjoyed playing the album over and over again. The music was old but it was new to my Gen X ears.
I don't understand really, why I have the penchant for anything that had the theme of the old media. Look at my choice of movies. To name a few, I like Back To The Future where Marty (played by Michael J. Fox) went to 1955. Forever Young, where Mel Gibson played a daring pilot in the 40s. A League of Their Own, the women's baseball era during the world wars. I even have a VCD copy of Calamity Jane starring Doris Day! I just love black and white Sampaguita movies. I am aware of the likes of Carmen Rosales and Rogelio dela Rosa, Juancho Gutierrez and Gloria Romero, Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa. My favorite boy band is the Beatles for crying out loud! Even the romance novels that I read, I enjoy and understand well the historical kind. In TV shows! I just love to follow on The Chronicles of Young Indiana Jones (starring Sean Patrick Flannery) that has the plot of the story done in the mobsters time. The Wonder Woman series starring Lynda Carter, the plot of the series was during WWII!
Do you think it has something to do with my past life? I don't know why really. Maybe I just appreciate and is fascinated by that era.
